Letter to Benny

Dear Benny,
You were our first bunny ever, our little Benny girl. SNIFF, SNIFF.
We went searching for you everywhere. We bought you in a pet store. You certainly were an abused Easter returnee, you were the biggest in the pen and the most active one, digging and hopping around. You reminded me of your Dad and I fell in love with you. You were cuddling with Bunny Bun, whom we brought home 3 days later to be with you.
When we first brought you home, you were very scared and hid under the lounge chair on the balcony. We couldn't bear seeing you outside alone, so we brought you in and into our hearts forever.
You wouldn't go into the box house with cedar shaving that we prepared for you. You knew more about what was good and bad for you than we. You used to pee/poop by the mirror; everyday you would leave presents there for us until we figured out we should put the litter box there.
You were older than Bunny Bun so she considered you her Mom. She used to pee everywhere and you taught her where to pee.
We thought you were a boy. We found out you weren't when we took you and Bunny Bun to get neutered/spayed because you were mounting her. After we dropped you both off, the vet called us and told us there was a problem. We freaked out and then she said you were both girls. Since we did not know about the cancer risks then, we told her not to do anything. We kept your name and sang you the 'Benny & the Jets' song.
You used to bite - who knows what happened to you before we found you but then you became a sweet, sweet bunny. I had to chase you to pet you but, after a couple of run-arounds, you would present and let me stroke your little grey head.
You were very mischievous and clever. You had the prettiest thick fur and cutiest pink ears. You were like a wild bunny. You loved to listen to the birds and the wind outside.
You loved to dig into our bed sheets and make holes in them. When I was sick we would play together in them. I would lift them up a bit on my side, and you would come out from under the covers and burrow again through the SO's side. We did this countless times. Now I will cry myself to sleep in those shredded sheets... missing you.
You loved to beg for treats like kanga-rabbits and hang out by the table and we could never say no.
You are the reason why we love rabbits so much. You are the reason why we brought Bunny Bun and then Charky & Ash into our home.
You are also the reason why we became vegetarians. Something really changed inside of us after you came to live with us.
I am so sorry we couldn't help you more with your pain. We felt helpless and desperate and did not know what to do. I hope you can forgive us for that.
You will always be our little grey rex with the fluffy speckled belly, our Velveteen Rabbit. We loved you so much, we always will.
I hope we will all be together someday in that vegetable garden in the sky. I hope Charky & Ashy take care of you till then. Ashy loved you - I am sure he is snuggling with you now.
We miss you...
Mom, Dad & Bunny Bun
