Bonding Bunnies - by Tom Speer

  • (1) Enclose yourself and the bunnies in an area small enough that you can sit on the floor and lean against one wall of the enclosure and still reach the buns.

  • (2) When they appraoch each other (nose to nose) reach down and put your hands on the back of their heads and gently push them down so their chins are on the floor with their noses touching and stroke them until you see their bodies start to relax and the tails go down.

  • (3) Once relaxed gently and slowly move them forward until they are pressed against each other cheek to cheek and continue gently petting them.

  • (4) Once they appear relaxed again, slowly remove your hands but keep them poised over the buns ,when you see them start to tense-up , begin petting them until they are once more relaxed.

  • (5) after "X" number of sessions (your judgment) try lifting your hands, keeping them just above them and let them react to each other and be prepared to start all over if they begin fighting.

  • (6) Once they start to appear fairly relaxed when you are not touching them and dont almost immediately start to get tense when you remove your hands, you can start to relax a "little" yourself and let them explore the area. As they approach each other during their adventure just be on the alert for signs of aggression (tail lifting etc) and be ready to intervene.

This procedure has worked every time for me without injury to any of my babies.

There are many different systems employed for bonding and of course rabbit personalities differ greatly,so get as much advice as possible and pick the system you think might work best for "you and your buns"
